You have no idea what I'm talking about, right? That's because not many people use the term bikeshedding. It's not a usual term that people just throw around all the time. Bikeshedding is when you argue about some meaningless thing and tend to avoid the more important issue at hand. For example Urban Dictionary tells us this: Technical disputes over minor, marginal issues conducted while more serious ones are being overlooked. The implied image is of people arguing over what color to paint the bicycle shed while the house is not finished. Let's take the above image as an example....

Have you ever started to work on a task and suddenly you realized that said task requires some other little task(s) to be finished beforehand. That's yak shaving for you, the tl;dr version. You've probably done this multiple times and you did even realize it. Back in 90s a Ph.D. at MIT by the name of Carlin J. Vieri produced this term to describe what you are doing when you're doing some stupid, fiddly little task that bears no obvious relationship to what you're supposed to be working on, but yet a chain of twelve causal relations...

You're working on a new project with WordPress. You enjoy yourself.
